Mission Statement
Our mission is to give teenage girls an opportunity to get informed about issues, gain confidence, and identify community resources in a safe, supportive, informal, fun atmosphere with a discussion format.
Values
Here is a list of the values of Ophelia’s Voice:
We value a safe, informal, positive, fun, supportive environment for the participants of the Ophelia’s Voice program.
We value a non-hierarchy and having the program facilitated, organized, and instructed by other youth to rid of a “classroom-type” setting.
We value having a close, personal relationship with each of the participants in the program, by means of frequent communication and activities.
We value having supportive, experienced mentors, either high school or college-aged, to offer input, support, experience, and ideas to our sessions.
We value maintaining a strong bond with the community, through advocacy, activities, partnerships, and the sharing of resources.
We value having participants offer feedback on Ophelia’s Voice, its development and activities. We try to instill an active evaluation program, giving participants an opportunity to share their suggestions, concerns, and ideas to benefit Ophelia’s Voice.
Objectives
1) To empower girls to have the self-confidence to make their own decisions, voice their opinion, and have the opportunity to make positive choices for the future.
2) To inform girls of important issues and give them strategies, resources, and support when facing these issues in their daily lives.
3) To give girls an opportunity to connect with the community, identify resources, and advocate the issues to other youth through monthly action projects.

Empowerment
Our first component is empowerment. We strive to empower girls to make positive choices and gain the self-confidence and awareness to contribute to society. We will achieve this through supportive, non-discriminatory discussions, role-playing activities, and the encouragement of women mentors and guest speakers. We will also encourage this by having an initial goal-setting activity, and time for reflective journaling and discussion throughout the program.
Education
Our second component is education. We strive to educate teenage girls in an informal, youth-instructed environment. Each month we will have “monthly themes” that center around an important, relevant issue. We will educate using discussions, handouts, community organizations presentations and guest speakers, PowerPoint presentations, art activities, and more. We think it is important to educate girls without the “classroom” atmosphere, and offering a safe, supportive environment for all girls to share their opinion, be heard, and contribute.
Advocacy
Our third component is advocacy. We would encourage girls to be more aware of other community resources and organizations, and also increase advocacy to other adolescents of the issues we have been discussing. We will do this by identifying community resources, encouraging partnerships with other organizations, having presentations from other community groups, and planning our monthly action project. This action project could take the form of a presentation, dramatic performance, information session/workshop, or even a poster to distribute to other community locations.
