Ethical Treatment of Animals and Environmental Protection

bullet Mission/Vision

We’ve been involved in lobbying for America’s wilderness and wildlife and an expertise, analysis and hard-line advocacy of animal rights since 1996 through a combination of science and education.

Ethical Treatment of Animals and Environment Protection’s (ETAEP) mission covers a broad range of concerns with five departments: Animal Rescue works with pet owners, the animal-care and control community, and legislators. Our Wildlife and Habitat Services strives to protect wildlife in their natural habitats as well as in captivity. Likewise, our Marine Mammals staff fights for better conditions, both in the wild and in captivity, for whales, manatees and other at-risk marine mammals. Government Affairs lobbies on behalf of animals at the federal, state, and local levels, while Farm Animal Welfare works for the more humane treatment of animals raised and killed for meat, eggs, and milk, and combats the spread of factory farming.

Some 85% of the funds we receive are used directly for the prevention of cruelty to animals and environmental protection and conservation.

We devote our expertise and leadership to coalition efforts, creating a broad base of support for animal rights and environmental campaigns and reaching out to diverse communities globally.

bullet What does the organization do?

The Ethical Treatment of Animals and Environmental Protection has created a revolutionary way to protect wildlife in their natural habitat and in captivity and the environment.

We expose the big corporations that endanger the lives of animals and destroy the environment. Most people don’t stop and think that their purchases are contributing to the inhumane treatment of animals or to the destruction of the environment. That is exactly where we come in. Behind every piece of paper you waste, there is a story–a forest, some wildlife, a group of people. We simply educate the public-at-large about the places where these products you buy come from.

No large corporation can afford to have its brand name become synonymous with the inhumane treatment of animals or the destruction of a forest. We help large companies and corporations that want to act responsibly. Whether they come to that decision on their own or through the pressures that we apply through local, state or the federal government, the results are the same.

Large corporations may be able to tune us out… they have in the past. But they cannot ignore their largest customers, the corporations we work with–when THEY demand environmental reform. By turning large corporations into animal activists and environment advocates, we have the ability to effect real change that protects animals and the environment.

bullet Opportunities for Youth

Help ETAEP’s staff spread the word about the rights of non-humans and the preservation of the environment. As a ETAEP intern, you can help:

• With grassroots activities in your community

• Generate editorials and articles

• Counsel teachers, parents and students on the humane educational issues and distribute materials at schools in your area

• Conduct library and online research

• Get the animal rights and environmental preservation message out through local, national, and international media

Many of our interns also do office work, attend demonstrations and work on special projects.

Working at ETAEP is interesting and rewarding but demanding as well. Interns are considered a part of the ETAEP staff and must be reliable and flexible. We depend on our interns and we appreciate their hard work. In turn, our interns expand their knowledge, experience the inside operations of a grassroots movement, and get the reward of working to alleviate animal suffering and the destruction of our environment.

We accept internship applications year-round and review them as they arrive. We generally make a decision within two weeks of receiving the applications.
To apply, email: intern@etaep.org.
