Since its inception in 1998 (The Townhouse Gallery) has established itself as one of the region's leading independent spaces for art, providing an extensive program of visual arts, film, theatre and music.
The three-floor main building, adjoining annex, and 650-meter converted factory space, house exhibition halls, showcasing new contemporary works, classrooms, a library and six studios.
The opening of the annex in 2001, and the factory space (650-meter former paper-factory) in the spring of 2002, have significantly expanded our program, as well as our exhibition space. Today, the gallery stands as one of the largest private exhibition spaces in the middle east.
The gallery hosts theatre and experimental music performances, as well as film screenings and public lectures.

* Townhouse Residency Project:
============================
Townhouse Residency Project was established in 2000 to provide artists with the opportunity to work in a studio in the context of urban Cairo.
A residency at Townhouse is wholly non-prescriptive, while priority is given to proposals rooted in an interest in the resources, both material and human, that urban Cairo and the surrounds may avail to artists.

* Internship Announcement:
========================
The Townhouse Gallery of contemporary art welcomes applications for its arts management internship programme.
Townhouse affords interns unprecedented opportunities in the realms of arts development, film and music programming, as well as curatorial work in the dynamic urban context of contemporary Cairo.
Sustainable initiatives that the gallery runs that may be of particular interest to prospective interns include PhotoCairo and the Open Studio Project (an international residency project). The gallery also runs a residency programme, as well as a theatre programme for young performing artists, among other initiatives.
In the past, the gallery has hosted interns with particular interest in art criticism, graphic design, photographic arts, the design and implementation of arts education programmes, as well as fundraising activities.
Nevertheless, novel initiatives are welcome as the gallery seeks interns who are aggressive self-starters and who may thrive in an often-unstructured, organic environment.
