We aim to take a comprehensive, community-based approach to rapidly and effectively expanding health services. We are currently building clinical health services in Nepal. The primary aim is to fund medical supplies and health care providers to get the long-abandoned government hospital in Achham functioning. From this base, health worker training and revitalization of the local health clinics and mobile care units will then be undertaken. The focus of clinic services will initially be on general primary care, maternal and child health, HIV, and tuberculosis. The aim is to rapidly set up a primary care system for the region and work with the government and international donors to provide ARVs to HIV-positive patients who need them. Concurrent with this will be an ongoing health needs assessment of the population, along with continuing careful epidemiological monitoring and disease surveillance, to determine future needs and evaluate current programs. It is only through this rapid response can the basic health status of the region be improved and an even more devastating HIV epidemic be avoided.
