AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan (APAP) is working on Preventive Health, HIV&AIDS, STIs awareness, Sexuality, Reproductive health, Population Welfare (Family Planning) in Punjab. APAP started AIDS awareness program on voluntarily basis in Lahore and its suburbs. The basic objective was to make people aware of the hazards of HIV & AIDS. How a common person can prevent him/herself from this epidemic disease. This group started its work in 1995 on self-support base.
AIDS which created a havoc around the world and there is no cure to stop its destruction, only prevention can be a method/formula to stop its insemination. Now the people of Pakistan are also facing the hazards of this incurable viral infection.
To work more effectively this group of youth (APAP) established a committee of nine members. Which afterwards in 1997 registered as AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan (APAP) under the societies act XXI of 1860 (R # RP/318) as NGO.
Since 1996 this group is engaged in AIDS awareness activities like organizing seminars, conferences, walks and visit of rural and suburb areas of Lahore city. APAP also has a group of volunteers who are providing information that how a common person can adopt precautionary measurements to avoid the disease.
Since 1996, APAP is celebrating World AIDS day (1st December) every year in Lahore. This activity made it possible for APAP to stand on top among other NGOs working on AIDS awareness. APAP is the only organization to organize such activity at a level where several national newspapers, TV channel and Radio channel gave full coverage, while several government officials/departments and personals from WHO, UNICEF/ UNAIDS appreciated its work. Along this, APAP had built up a strong network with other NGOs. APAP is Executive Member of Punjab AIDS Consortium (PAC), a platform for NGOs working on HIV & AIDS. APAP also has affiliation with National Trust for Population Welfare (NATPOW). APAP is selected the local coordinator 2003-6 of International AIDS Candle Light Memorial USA.
