Children's International Summer Villages - Fredericton Chapter

bullet Mission/Vision

CISV is an independent, non-political volunteer organization promoting peace education and cross - cultural friendship.
CISV provides a range of unique educational group activities, which develop cross cultural understanding in children and youth from around the world.
By encouraging respect for cultural differences and the development of self-awareness, CISV empowers each participant to incorporate these values into their lives as they become global citizens and strive for a more peaceful world.

bullet What does the organization do?

CISV offers opportunities for interested children, young people, adults and families to explore relevant themes through independent, short term, non - formal educational activities organized in, international, national and local contexts. These may be in either residential or non - residential settings and are offered to qualified participants irrespective of gender, race, religion, ethnicity, political affiliation, socio - economic background, or distinction of any other kind.
CISV volunteer programmes and activities are planned to promote personal, cultural, intercultural, and international learning. This enables individuals to develop awareness of, and positive attitudes towards others, and the skills and knowledge to live, work and play with them, irrespective of cultural background. Through participation, individuals come to better understand themselves and their own culture as well as others and their cultures
CISV is a membership based organization. Administration of the activities and programs is carried out by committees and Board members. There is a Youth Board ( Junior Branch) and Adult Board to govern & conduct the business of the chapter. Youth are represented at all levels ( local, national & international).

bullet Opportunities for Youth

Locally, activities are planned for youth by youth. The format may be a weekend mini-camp or an activity that lasts a couple hours. Often local activities involve connecting with community likeminded groups or individuals.

Nationally, there are opportunities for personal & leadership development through participation on various national youth committees and attendance at National meetings, training events, and national camps.

Internationally, CISV chapters host camps and exchanges for youth from age 11 – 20 .
International programs vary from 3-4 weeks in duration during school holidays, youth represent their country in small delegations with adult leaders for children under 16. Camps have between 9-12 countries participating and exchanges are done between 2 CISV National Associations.
