The first and foremost agenda of YTAGV is to change the view of the gun violence spectrum from an issue of random crime to a public health crisis. What does this mean? This means that we must educate people to consider the alarmingly high amount of suicides each and every year from guns. The gun lobby and their supporters continue to use the fear tactic to urge people to view this problem as one of random crime. This means that they want us to believe that all the deaths from guns are a result of criminals. YTAGV knows that this is NOT the case. Only 25% of all gun-related deaths are from criminals. While that IS a significant number, we must focus on the other 75%. This percentage is from acquaintance homicides, unintentional shootings, and suicides. There are over 18,000 deaths by suicide with a gun each year in our country. SOMETHING must be done.
