The mission of all Boys and Girls Clubs in Canada is to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.
Our Tradition
For over 100 years, Boys and Girls Clubs across Canada have carried on a tradition of helping young people to discover, develop and achieve their full potential as adults, citizens and leaders, by engaging them in activities that challenge and enrich their minds, bodies and spirits and nurture their self-esteem.
Our safe, caring club environments and enriching programs have enabled some three million young Canadians to play, learn and develop valuable skills for life.
Our Movement
Today, Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada is a leading provider of quality programs to children and youth that support the healthy physical, educational and social development of more than 200,000 young people and their families each year.
We are an association of over 100 clubs located in 700 community service locations across Canada. Clubs are in neighbourhoods where they are most needed, in large city centres, remote rural communities and on First Nations Reserves.
In each club location, trained, dedicated staff and volunteers provide children and youth, ranging in age from pre-school to young adulthood, with programs in physical recreation, technology, the arts, personal growth and more. Many clubs also provide meals, family support programs, emergency shelter and other supports to children and youth at risk. Programs are offered primarily during the after-school hours when studies have shown that young people are most vulnerable to victimization and becoming drawn into anti-social behaviours. Many clubs also offer programs during evenings and weekends.

Boys and Girls Club programs are developed in response to the local needs of children, youth and families in communities across Canada. Kids like our programs because they’re fun and parents like them because they’re safe, reputable and reliable. Club programs aim to enrich the development of children of all ages, by fostering in each child a sense of belonging, personal empowerment, achievement, and self-confidence. Programs also offer children opportunities to develop the skills and knowledge they need to achieve their full potential in life.
Club programs also address the need in communities nationwide for providing children and youth with safe, stimulating places to go - particularly during the after-school period between 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. This is when young people, left unsupervised, are at highest risk of being victimized or drawn into delinquent or criminal activities.
Club programs look different from club to club, but all focus on four key areas of healthy child development, addressing the top concerns of Canadian parents today about their children’s well-being and development:
Physical and Emotional Health, Safety and Security, Success at Learning, and Social Engagement and Responsibility.
In tackling issues that are close to the heart of every community and believing in the positive potential of Canadian children, we are making our communities better places to live and grow up - and building Canada’s capacity for future success.

‘Change That Clicks!’ is an innovative program which facilitates youth-led change in local, national and global communities through online and offline engagement. The program’s main objectives include providing youth with the educational resources necessary to use Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) safely and effectively, as well as raising awareness of regional and global community issues. Developing these faculties in youth is central to encouraging collaboration among individual and collective youth initiatives for inspired change.
