In November 1996, the UN system-wide Youth Forum held in Vienna, Austria, endorsed the proposal put forward by the Environment and Sustainable Development work group for the establishment of Sustainable Development Training Centres/Internet Cafes’ in various parts of the world. It was intended that these Centres would be used as focal points for the involvement of young people in development activities. GuyberNet is Guyana’s response to the call of the World Youth forum. The Eccles/Moblissa Youth Leaders Council was identified as the local organisation to implement the project.
GuyberNet was founded on April 7, 1999 and officially Launched on the 28 June 1999.
“To positively contribute to sustainable youth and community development by providing educational training and other development programmes on a non-partisan basis for our target groups through the use of Information Technology”.

GuyberNet is a not-for-profit Global Sustainable Development Information and Training Centre. A facility designed to educate the Guyanese public, particularly young people and children about AGENDA 21 and other important global issues through the use of Information Technology and other social and educational activities. Training has been provided in a variety of areas including environmental conservation, human rights, gender equality, peace, conflict resolution, personal hygiene, and sustainable enterprise development using sustainable techniques.
