Over sixty percent of the adult population cannot read or write adequately. And younger generations, the country's future, are not being taught properly. As we look toward a better future for Haiti, we strongly believe that education must play an essential role in improving the lives of individuals and communities. Literacy is a first step toward a brighter and more prosperous nation. According to a definition of literacy by Denise Lievesley at the UIS (UNESCO Institute of Statistics), "Literacy is the skills used in everyday life or those that allow one to function competently in their own society". Education provides Haitians with opportunities to develop the skills necessary to contribute toward a stronger, better Haiti. HAFLICA is here to invest in fellow Haitians and their education.
