 Mission/Vision
The aims and objectives of the International Au Pair Association are* To protect the interest of au pairs and host families through IAPA's internationally accepted Codes of Conduct* To monitor the performance of au pair organisations * To provide an independent body to which au pairs and host families may apply for information and address their concerns * To promote au pair programmes among young people throughout the world in order to assist in the development of friendly, peaceful relations and to strengthen cultural ties between nations * To assist in the development of au pair programmes in countries where they do not exist and to ensure that au pair exchanges are accepted as cultural exchange programmes * To secure mutual understanding and cooperation between all members of the Association in any way which may be found practicable including conferences, seminars, exchange of literature and information * To lobby governments to treat au pair programmes as cultural exchange programmes so au pairs and their receiving host families are not subject to employment taxation * To establish guidelines for the conduct of business between members and for the treatment of au pairs and host families * To monitor the conduct of members of the Association and to increase public awareness of the professionalism of the member organisations
What does the organization do?
In response to the increased demand for au pairs, new agencies are cropping up and with them the need for some sort of regulation on an international level. IAPA aims to meet this need by implementing a system of self-regulation and introducing a certain level of standardisation. IAPA will later strive to raise these standards, but only to a realistic, affordable level. Also available on the site: member au pair organisations in many countries.
